Create your Project Dashboard

The first dashboard we will explore is the "Project Dashboard", an excellent model of an overview dashboard. An overview dashboard gives you the ability to get a quick overview of one or more projects, ensuring that you are always aware of the overall status. This type of dashboard proves to be a valuable tool for both managers and team leaders who require an overview of project progress without the need to get into all the details.

In addition, an entire team can leverage it as a hub for collaboration and to keep up with updates.

"Use it as a source of inspiration or as a template for your current projects. Fill in the information in the suggested columns and add new elements as they arise. For more information on dashboard templates, we recommend reading this article.

Groups

A category is a section of the board that is distinguished by its color and encompasses all the elements (lines). These categories play a central role in the organization of the dashboard, as they facilitate the classification of the content. There are multiple approaches to grouping these elements.

General dashboards, such as the "Project Dashboard", can be structured according to quarters, months, phases, customers, projects or any other way that is beneficial to the team. Typically, we group items by phases and associate activities (items) to the corresponding phase. Activities can be considered as major tasks or milestones within the project."

Displays dates on a calendar

The timeline view uses the timeline column to gather information and present it together in a calendar. Each item is placed in its corresponding position on the calendar and identified by color according to the group to which it belongs, which is shown in the left pane. This perspective is highly effective for visualizing the duration of projects and how different projects can coincide in the same period on the calendar.

Manage your resources

The workload view makes it easy to see and understand how the workload is distributed across the team. It allows you to immediately identify who has a lighter or heavier workload, which in turn allows you to assign upcoming tasks evenly. If necessary, you have the flexibility to reassign tasks or modify due dates to ensure that everyone can complete as many tasks as possible within the set deadline.

Visualize data with graphs

The chart view gives you the ability to generate a chart using any information contained in the dashboard. Here, we can illustrate two examples of chart views. In the first graph, labeled "Activity Status," the progress of the project is displayed. The X-axis represents the various status labels in the status column, while the Y-axis indicates the count of items linked to each status.

Automate your workflows

Automations are an effective way to set up actions as triggers in the work process. They help you save time and effort, as well as serve as a reminder to carry out tasks that you might overlook. In the Automation Center, you have a wide variety of customizable formulas at your disposal, and you can also design your own.

Get the overview in one panel

You can set up a dashboard that is connected to the two project management dashboards, as well as any other relevant dashboard, in order to get a holistic view of projects, using applications and widgets. Next, let's examine some of the widgets that could be useful in both the 'Project Dashboard' and the 'Task Dashboard':

- The indicator widget provides a visual representation of how the status labels are distributed on the dashboards.

- The numerical values widget presents the calculation of the total cost of the project according to the column of numbers.

- The graph widget generates graphs based on the data contained in the dashboards, illustrating the number of items in each of the groups.

- The calendar widget shows in a consolidated way all tasks and activities of the dashboards in a single calendar.
